Yup, here till 6am. No projects scheduled, preventative maintenance tasks lined up, 7.5 hours to go. Entertain me.

I’m sure there are great hiding spots in the plant I haven’t discovered yet. I do have the mattress in the van out in the parking lot....
It’s also 30 degrees and snowing, so maybe too cold for a power nap.

You should go exploring the darkened alcoves of the plant with a flashlight. Because nothing bad ever happens to the guy who does that in the movies.

A friend of mine’s brother will be needing a cheap first car soon. Probably no more than like 3.5k or so. Try your luck. I’m going to make a few suggestions just because it’s fun.
I really want to see if I can convince him to get this Saab 9-5 wagon. Price is a little high for the miles but seems like an awesome ride and enthusiast owned.

Not a terrible idea. There is a lot of vacant rooms and corridors in this building. Wish me luck. If I don’t make it, LongVoyager gets the rallyvan

$3500 price range. any preferences on vehicle type?

3.5k might be a little high considering him. I don’t think he will be too picky but he had been looking at older sedans. Basically just half decent fuel economy and not too difficult to maintain. Lots of stuff in that price range, some better than others. Of course he could just get a used Camry and it would be fine plus or minus a transmission service but there is some more interesting stuff that fits the bill.
I really think this is a good candidate. Price is maybe a little high though.

And these 6s are pretty solid with the four cylinder plus being a blast to drive. My brother had a V6 sedan that blew up and I remember it fondly.

But the real interesting choice would be this.

What are you thinking here?

I like the Mazda suggestions. Always thought they were great used vehicles for anyone.
My only worry with the Astra is the availability of parts. I’m not entirely sure how common parts are for that model for it being practically a rebadging of a foreign model.
I’ll do some digging and find some picks

His family has always had profoundly uninteresting cars to drive. Minivans and FWD SUVs. I want to get him something that isn't boring to drive. 2000s Mazdas are great drivers cars and their 4 cylinders are pretty durable. Not sure about their transmissions but I recommend a transmission service on just about all used cars. Not sure if he would be willing to branch out with a stick but there was a really clean Rallydarkstrike spec Hyundai Accent hatch I liked the look of. The Astra had a normal GM Ecotec engine but non mechanical stuff would be scarce.

I’m biased, but there no such thing as an uninteresting mini van!
Here’s what I found:
https://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/ctd/d/peachtree-corners-2005-mazda-6-clean/7223772679.html
Fully loaded 6 with a 3 month warranty too!! Got the looks of a Mazdaspeed 6 without the power and headaches of that powertrain.

Rebuilt title and minimal description are the only worry here. But I love these wagons.
https://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/cto/d/marietta-2007-volvo-s40-24l/7223518608.html
Another sharp Volvo, but needs an AC compressor.
https://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/ctd/d/cumming-toyota-rav4-4door-wagon-sport/7223435585.html
Fun Rav4!! AWD with a clean Carfax.

Of course, I have to recommend a van or two. This one has some cosmetic issues (mostly paint), and a minor “stutter when engine warm”, but this thing is rad.

A very clean Cherokee

High miles, but a fun 5-speed Civic coupe!

Always was a fan of the Element as well. This one was taken care of albeit the 200k miles.

I mean, you’d expect so, but I think he’s got some strong preferences as far as minivans go.

If he doesn’t want it, the can can be offered to any other Oppo then.

So, m y weekend was completely shot by a stomach bug that just wouldn’t quit and a dying external hard drive. Even tonight, I was not sure I could trust burps OR farts. What do I wrap up first?:
- Edits I need to do ASAP
- A short piece due today, also ASAP
- A car review I need to do ASAP
- Take a nap and don’t vomit, and also maybe set an alarm to call a doctor about this cra—err, these craps
Please advise. Godspeed, all-night-shift worker.

Take it easy and feel better. Don’t overtax yourself.
Have a fantastic view of the Appalachians. I went hiking on Sunday and it was very relaxing.

$2,600 for a RWD Cherokee 6 cylinder is pretty good but I think I see some rust color on the unibody rails.
And as much as I like those Volvos,
Something like that Civic coupe would be good. The automatics seem to command around a $1000 premium over the manuals so that would be a good candidate to getting him in a more interesting car. That said, I’m not a fan of how those cars drive, with the automatics at least.
My brother had a 6 exactly like albeit with cloth seats and it was a ton of fun. . . until the V6 imploded. It had repeated timing problems prior so a simple timing belt change probably couldn’t convince me to recommend a V6. Though the four cylinders are pretty robust as I understand.

The RAV4 is pretty good looking. It’s even a 4WD.

Well I suppose I could have made that a great view while taking a dump but I doubt my friends would have appreciated that. Have another:
Though also the view from my current work location has a stunning view of Midtown Atlanta as well. It's pretty great. Hope you get better soon. Don't overtax yourself now. Don't be afraid to call in a favor or two to not work yourself into a relapse.
